Visit of Bp Marcelo Palentini |
|
Mons. Marcelo Palentini is
an SCJ Bishop in the Diocese of Jujuj in Argentina. After attending a
meeting of bishops in Bangkok, Thailand, he took the opportunity to visit
his confreres in the Philippines. It took place from July 9 - 19, 2004.
Accompanied by Fr. Rino Venturin, his former classmate, companion in the
missions and personal friend, he was able to visit most of the SCJ places in
the Philippines and some other interesting sites. (Below is the
article from www.scj.org giving some more
information about his work and activities).

In Defense of the Poorest
Bishop Marcello Palentini, our scj confrere and
Ordinary of San Salvador de Jujuy (Argentina), from the very beginning
of his episcopacy has been involved in the defense of the poorest people
in his diocese. A number of times he has been asked to mediate between
opposing groups. He is in complete solidarity with the other bishop of
the province, the Claretian Bishop Olmedo Rivero, Prelate of Humahuaca.
The fact that he has been supported by the people has
allowed him to take a very courageous and beneficial step forward by
taking positions that differ from the ones adopted by local and national
authorities. He views his attitude as inspired by the SCJ charism which
has a particular sensitivity and meaningful commitment to the social
order.
The diocese of Jujuy is 20,082 km. sq. with 527,141
inhabitants who are largely Catholic and are about 60% Indian.
Multinational organizations have purchased and closed mining and sugar
fields; as a result the population is undergoing great suffering due to
the neoliberal policies that leave little room for social development
and freedom. The bishop, as head of a number of solidarity
organizations, has insisted on a "culture of solidarity" that permits a
poor person to step up and take charge of his own development and
liberation through work, peace, and Christian understanding.
At the pastoral level, Bishop Palentini has been
promoting the NIP plan (New Vision of Parish) which calls for a 10 year
program to allow base communities to grow and mature, not making use of
small groups but rather on the mass of people who adhere to the Catholic
faith and who are receiving suitable pastoral care. This was the very
plan he used at General San Martin in the Chaco province when he was
parish pastor for 11 years prior to being named bishop.
Last April 29, the city of Jujuy rewarded the Bishop
for his work on behalf of the public welfare, bestowing the citizenship
aware "San Salvador de Jujuy" a recognition in his person of the work
done by the local church in its commitment to making society more human
and seeking to reduce the terrible effects of the new economic order.

SCJ Asia Convention |
|
- From July 26 - 30, 2004, the
representatives from Indonesia, India, Vietnam and all the
members of the SCJ Philippine District took part in a special
seminar organized in Zamboanga City. The main focus of this
convention was an inter religious dialog. It was not only an
opportunity to learn more about other religions, but also to see
the necessity of dialog and cooperation among them. At the same
time, it was a meeting of the SCJ Superiors in Asia attended
also by Fr. Andreas Madya Srijanto, the General Councillor. The
meeting aimed at developing the cooperation between the
different countries on the Asian continent and examining the
possibility of new presences of the SCJs in Asia.

Fr. Andrzej Sudoł
|
Andrzej Sudoł, scj,
was
born in Poland, town: Mielec, on September 17, 1970. He comes from a
Catholic family. Both of his parents are retired now. His mother,
Józefa, was a midwife. His father, Józef, was a constructor in an
airplanes factory. Also he played football in a local club Stal
Mielec.
Before
he joined the Congregation, in 1989, he used to work with youth in
his parish. He often played football with them, organized Bible
sharing and during summer holiday used to take them to the Tatry
Mountains for excursions.
During
his studies and formation in the Sacred Heart Seminary, in Poland,
he has discovered his vocation for the missions. As a result, after
his ordination (May 11, 1996 in Stadniki) he has been sent to work
in our SCJ’s new foundation in the South of India. He had been
working for three years there. Then, he spent two years in Ireland
studying spirituality. He could not come back to India due some
problems with the entry visa.
In
December 2002, Fr General asked him to go to the Philippines. Soon
after, he has arrived in Manila, on February 26, 2003 where he
joined our SCJs community here. At present he works in our parish,
in Kumalarang.

Prayer in Preparation for World Youth
Day 2005
Lord Jesus
Christ,
Savior of the World,
You became man,
to give us a life in abundance.
You promised to remain with Your Church
until the end of time.
Then Your Kingdom will come:
a new heaven and earth
full of love, justice and peace.
This is our hope, our foundation.
Thanks be to You.
Lord, we pray:
Bless the young people around the world.
Reveal Yourself to those who are in search of You.
Awake the non-believers.
Strengthen the faith of those who confess You.
Let them continuously search for You
like the three Wise Men from the East.
Make them architects of a new civilization of love
and witnesses of hope for the whole world.
Through them may You be with those
who suffer from hunger, war and violence.
Inspire those who are contributing
to the World Youth Day 2005.
May they serve Your kingdom
with the power of their faith and their love
and may they welcome their brothers and sisters
from all over the world with open hearts.
Lord, You gave us Mary as our mother.
Let her be our advocate for this World Youth Day.
May it become a celebration of faith.
Bless Your Church with new strength in these days,
so that it can become a credible witness for You.
We ask this through our Lord and God,
living in the unity of the Father and the Holy Spirit,
reigning forever and ever.
Amen.
