San Isidro Labrador Parish of Kumalarang, Zamboanga del Sur was detached from Buug Parish on August 9, 1981. At that time it comprised also the whole municipality of Lakewood. The Founder and first Parish Priest was Fr. Fernando Milani, PIME (1981-1985), who was followed by two his companions: Fr. Luciano Benedetti (1982-1986) and Fr. Paulo da Rocha Dias (1986-1989). Since November 29, 1989 the Priests of the Sacred Heart (SCJ) took over until the present time. The Parish belongs to the Prelature of Ipil and covers the whole area of the Municipality of Kumalarang (17,245.73 ha.) plus two Barangays from the Municipality of Lakewood. The total Parish population is about 25,000 people with a catholic population of about 15,500. Excluding the Poblacion, the parish has 24 Chapels which are served by two SCJ priests and two MSM sisters (residing in Barangay Diplo), two full time and four part time lay workers. The rest are volunteers. At the moment within the Parish there are active seven Prelature Ministries and four Religious Organizations. Besides these, there are some other projects and activities such as a Community Farming Project and a Church based Cooperative. The parish also has its own monthly Newsletter "Panagtagbo". The real pride of the parish is the new Church built mostly with the efforts from the local Community. * Celebration 2nd Sunday of August |
